Yuasa has launched a dedicated scooter battery range, built for Europe's rapidly expanding scooter and moped market, and we now have it in stock.
If you have ever fitted a battery to a 125cc commuter scooter, you will know the problem. The genuine Yuasa YTX is the right battery, but on a bike worth a few hundred quid the customer often balks at the price and reaches for whatever unbranded AGM is cheapest on the marketplace. Six months later it is dead.
The new Scooter Battery Range is Yuasa's answer to that. It is a genuine Yuasa product, built to Yuasa's manufacturing standards, but with a simplified design and a streamlined production process that brings the price down. Yuasa describe it as an economical entry point to genuine Yuasa build quality for light-duty scooter and moped use.
Theo den Hoed, Motorcycle Product Manager at GS Yuasa Battery Europe Ltd, said the range was developed for cost-conscious scooter riders who value practicality, reliability and value for money, giving customers a trusted, affordable option backed by Yuasa's long-standing reputation for quality.
What's in the range
Fifteen batteries covering capacities from 4.2Ah to 11.8Ah (20hr), sized to fit the most popular scooters and mopeds on European roads. Three series:
STR series (sealed AGM, maintenance-free) Fit and forget. Spill-proof, sealed construction, no topping up. The core of the range, covering the most common scooter case sizes.
STS series (sealed AGM, maintenance-free) Same maintenance-free AGM construction, in the low-profile case sizes used by a lot of modern mid-capacity scooters.
STC series (conventional flooded) Simple, durable and easy to install, for riders and workshops who prefer a straightforward conventional battery.

The part numbering follows the same logic you already know. An STR9-BS sits in the same slot as the YTX9-BS you have been fitting for years, and the STS parts map to the equivalent YTZ sizes, so cross-referencing is quick. Always confirm fitment against Yuasa's battery lookup before ordering.
Scooter range or motorcycle range?
This is the bit worth getting right, because the two ranges are not interchangeable.
Choose the Scooter Range for: light-duty scooters and mopeds, everyday urban riding, leisure use, modest electrical demands, and customers where price is the deciding factor.
Stay with the Yuasa Motorcycle Range (YB, YT, YTX, YTZ) for: larger scooters, higher daily mileage, commuters and delivery riders, heavier electrical loads, and anyone who wants the longest possible service life. Yuasa themselves recommend the premium motorcycle range for these applications, and so do we.
Think of it as good and better rather than old and new. Both are genuine Yuasa. They are simply built for different jobs.
Why it matters for the trade
Most scooter battery replacements are price-driven. Until now the choice on the counter was a premium Yuasa or an unknown import, and plenty of workshops lost the sale to the import. The Scooter Range gives you something to put in the middle: a genuine, warranted Yuasa battery at a price the commuter customer will actually accept, with the Yuasa motorcycle range still there as the up sell for the rider who wants the best.
For scooter dealers, mobile mechanics and independent workshops, that is a gap filled.
